Bronze in Motion
In Indian art history, the divine figure was never an idolatrous image: it carried prana, that is, breath, life, and rhythm. The beauty of Nataraja’s sway and the gracefulness of Krishna leaning with the cow can be considered evocative of an energy in eternal dance rather than of stillness.
Dr Gnana’s sculptures share much of the same kind of spirit. His form tends to be more modern; often, they may even be abstracted or elongated, and rhythm is sculpted into the metal itself. His work with sculptures is emblematic of an idea that a curve or a gesture can hold life-force.
